We all love barbecues. But what’s best, gas or charcoal?

Gas barbecues are more eco-friendly than charcoal — they are more energy-efficient and release less pollution. Gas won’t give a funny flavour to your food like charcoal briquettes. Gas barbecues are not all expensive, and some are small enough to be taken on camping trips. Here’s where to find some online.

The BBQ shop has a wide range of garden gas barbecues, like the Royal Wagon BBQ, one of the cheapest at £119. Gas barbecues can cost up to £650, like the Broil King Imperial 90, a family-size BBQ with lots of features.

The Weber Baby Q is a great looking portable gas BBQ. It works with liquid propane, but is like a real grill and produces flames. £129 from Abtelectronics.

The Campingaz Party Grill is even smaller and can be dismantled for easy transport – it comes with a special pouch that fits both BBQ and gas can. It works with CV270 or CV470 Campingaz cartridges. £39 from Wildday.com

Cadac make an odd-looking barbecue, which looks more like a big frying pan on legs. It is non-stick and scratch-resistant, and can cook meat, eggs, veg, stir-fries and even deep-fries. £49.99 from outdoor megastore
